Czech unemployment remains at 4% in February

The Czech unemployment rate remained at 4% in February, unchanged month-on-month. In year-on-year terms, it increased by 0.1%.

It is also the highest February rate since 2017, except for the COVID-19 year of 2021, and the third lowest rate in the EU, the Czech Labour Office reported.

Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Marian Jurecka pointed out that “many vacancies are still available for applicants” and that “traditionally among the most demanded ones are workers professions”.

“For a third month in a row, the number of job applicants is higher than registered free vacancies,” Daniel Kristof, CEO of the Labour Office, commented. Kristof also stated two-thirds of those using subsidised requalification courses are women.

A total of 383,469 Ukrainians seeking shelter in Czechia under the temporary protection scheme have obtained jobs. Nearly 68% of these are women, and 121,338 worked in Czechia at the end of January, mostly as workers, assistant workers in construction, production and transportation. At the end of February, 15,648 Ukrainians under the temporary protection scheme were registered as job applicants.
