Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on June 27 said US President Donald Trump’s idea of any war with Iran being “short” is an illusion and that his threat of “obliteration in some areas” bordered on a warning of “genocide”.
“‘Obliteration’=genocide=war crime,” Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote on Twitter. “‘Short war’ with Iran is an illusion,” he added.
Trump said on June 25 that he was “not talking boots on the ground” should he take military action against Iran and that he had “unlimited time” to try and forge an agreement with Tehran for a much broader nuclear deal with the Iranians. Adding that “I’m just saying if something would happen it wouldn’t last very long,” he added.
Various Iranian armed forces chiefs have issued dire warnings of what Iran’s response would be should US armed forces take military action against the country.
