Slovenia’s consumer price growth accelerates to 2.3% y/y in August

Consumer prices in Slovenia went up by 2.3% year on year in August, accelerating from a 2% increase in the previous month, the statistics office said. On a monthly level, consumer prices were on average 0.4% higher, following a 0.7% decrease in July.

In the first eight months of the year Slovenia's annual inflation was 1.7%.

The greatest impact on annual inflation in August (0.7 pp) was from higher prices of goods and services in the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels sector, whereas prices of water supply and miscellaneous services increased by 7.8% and prices of electricity, gas and other fuels by 3.6%.

A contribution of 0.5 pp came from higher prices for food, which went up by 3.1%, while higher prices of clothing and footwear (by 5.2%) contributed by 0.4 pp.

The monthly growth rate was pushed up the most (by 0.2 pp) by higher prices of clothing (by 4.3%). 

Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, in August the annual growth of consumer prices in Slovenia was 2.4% y/y, compared with 2% a year earlier.
