Russia leads the world by a wide margin for the number of women executives for the second year running, Grant Thornton International says in its annual survey of women in business.

Russia is six percentage points ahead of the nearest challenger to the top slot as Russian women hold 45% of senior management positions, up five percentage points from a year earlier. The company polled more than 5,500 senior managers in 36 countries.

The countries following Russia in second and third place are the Philippines (39%) and Lithuania (39%). The worst countries for the number of women in leadership roles are Japan (7%), Germany (15%) and India (16%), according to the survey.
